On the first flick through, my initial impression was that this book is aimed at fairly serious garden designer level. Colourfully illustrated throughout, the publication also benefits from clearly laid out, numbered, step-by-step instructions, where relevant, e.

Technically, if you throw enough money at it, you could create practically anything, but a significant level of skill is required along with specialist tools, to accomplish some of the projects, and IMO, some professional help might also be a wise investment. Great book from one of the best in the business. If you like Adam Frost on Gardeners World then you will love this book. I love how there are sections within sections. So the overarching themes of designing, building and then enjoying your garden can be read as one book, or you can dip in and out when you need a bit of advice from a true pro. So I am looking to lay a good base of hardcore and pebbles for an area of 18 raised beds soon.

The section which covers what tools you need, preparing the site, and creating a good base for paths will be really useful. It has everything from what plants to use, to tree planting, to a month by month guide.

Finally some superb illustrations and photographs. Just love it! Very disappointed. I had hoped for something more inspirational and with much more emphasis on planting. Far too few planting ideas. There are thousands of you tube videos to tell me how to lay concrete. Gosh this reminds me so much of the lovely Geoff Hamilton who I loved to watch. This book by Adam however is even better This is like buying a DIY a book.

I had hoped for inspirational insights, but what I got seemed a bit lazy, reading like a diary of how the author does his job.

Where are all the fabulous gold medal winning gardens? Very disappointed! Really enjoy dipping in and out of this book. It is so simple but gives good ideas on planning with suggestions on scheme, i e a dry garden. I really like the hard landscaping section.

It makes it seem possible for anyone with some DIY skills. I think it has appeal to people wanting to achieve simple one off tasks and to those wanting to re-design a full garden. Love this book! Simple, easy instructions to follow and packed with great ideas!

Just need to put my ideas into action now! This has really helped me understand the process, the design aspects and everything else that goes with it. Great buy. See all reviews. Back to top. Designed in Glasgow and made in Scotland, Ocean Plastic Pots are durable and practical plant pots made from discarded rope and fishing nets. The founders' aim is to raise awareness of ocean plastic pollution and come up with a clever way to repurpose it. Everyone who buys one of his plant pots has a powerful daily reminder of the need to recycle and in particular look after our oceans. The 10 shortlisted products included a transportable compost loo and peat-free compost. They were judged against a criteria that took into consideration their carbon footprint , durability, biodegradability, environmental best practice and recyclability, as well as design innovation, functionality and quality.

It also lends itself to Mediterranean-style drought-tolerant planting so things like lavender, euphorbias, Cistus , Santolina and Phlomis are ideal and provide plenty of nectar and pollen for visiting insects. Any area is suitable for a gravel garden, although a sunny, well-drained spot is best for most Mediterranean plants. While it is possible to make a gravel garden on any soil type, a predominantly sandy or gravelly soil naturally lends itself to this type of style. Small plants can become swamped by gravel. Plant them on a low mound so that that they are raised slightly above the level of the gravel.
